Biography
Greetings,
I am Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, but many know me by my stage name, Bobi Wine. It's with great humility that I share a glimpse into my life's journey with you.
My story began in Nkozi Hospital, and I grew up navigating the bustling streets of the Kamwokya
See Moreslum in Kampala, Uganda. Despite the challenges of my humble beginnings, I've found purpose in raising my voice against the oppressive regime that governs our beloved country.
Music has always been my beacon of hope and my platform for social change. In the early 2000s, I embarked on my musical journey under the moniker BobiRob, later transitioning to Bobi Wine. Songs like "Akagoma," "Funtula," and "Sunda" resonated deeply with audiences, sparking conversations about the issues affecting our communities. With over 70 songs across genres like kidandali, reggae, dancehall, and Afrobeat, I've strived to amplify the voices of the marginalized and disenfranchised.
Beyond music, I've ventured into the world of film, starring in local productions such as "Yogera" and "Situka," and even hosting my reality TV show, "The Ghetto President."
My journey took a political turn in 2017 when I dared to challenge the status quo by running for parliament. Winning the by-election for Kyadondo County East constituency was a testament to the power of grassroots movements and the collective will for change. However, my advocacy for democracy and accountability has come at a cost, with multiple arrests and allegations of torture aimed at silencing dissent.
In 2020, I stepped onto the national stage, announcing my candidacy for the Ugandan presidential election. Leading the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, I stood as a beacon of hope for those yearning for a more just and equitable Uganda. Despite facing intimidation and violence, my resolve remained unshakeable as I contested the legitimacy of the electoral process.
Amidst the political turbulence, I've remained steadfast in my commitment to humanitarian causes. From championing initiatives to improve healthcare infrastructure to advocating for maternal and child health, I've strived to uplift the most vulnerable in our society.
My journey is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring quest for justice and equality. As the upcoming movie "Bobi Wine: People's President" shines a light on my story, I hope it serves as a catalyst for change and inspires others to join the fight for a better tomorrow.
